This example is a Victorian Villa situated in a conservation area, and built in 1883. The owner had bought the property in a run-down state and is performing a sympathetic restoration using appropriate materials. The existing roof had been leaking badly, had broken and loose slates, and had had gaps filled with concrete.
The roof covering was removed, all timbers treated and replaced where necessary, before fitting a breathable underslaters Tyvek felt. The roof was then recovered using a natural slate, with hand formed code 5 lead fittings dressed and lead-burned.
